Assistant Store Manager

Job Title: Assistant Store Manager

Position Purpose

The Assistant Manager, under the direction of the Store Manager, is responsible for all administrative, operational and merchandising functions of the store with the primary objective of meeting sales and profit plans. The Assistant Manager must ensure that customer service is prioritized over all other tasks and is responsible for the supervision, training and development of the employees and volunteers.

Reports to: Store Manager

Essential Functions

  • Ensure all goals and objectives are met relative to store budget;
  • Give weekly sales and progress reports during absence of Store Manager to Director of Retail;
  • Promote merchandise and supervise its receiving, display and pricing;
  • Maintain standards of quality and cleanliness of store and inventory;
  • Monitor and sign all related staff and volunteer time cards, vacation and sick leave requests during Store Managers absence;
  • Ensure (and conduct when necessary) cross training of staff as appropriate;
  • Ensure appropriate training of all new personnel and volunteers, and participate in the interview process;
  • Set up store displays as assigned;
  • Assist customers with sales and questions;
  • Move merchandise from warehouse to sales floor and vice versa;
  • Furniture assembly;
  • Maintain a safe work environment at all times.

Required Education and Experience

  • Graduate from a high school, or possession of a certificate of proficiency issued by the California State Board of Education, or possession of a G.E.D. certificate;
  • 2 years prior retail experience;
  • 2 years prior supervisory experience preferably in a retail setting;
  • High level of knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and web based email applications required;
  • Flexibility in schedule, weekends and holidays are required;
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience/knowledge of thrift store environment preferred;
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), interpersonal and team-oriented skills;
  • Self-starting, self-motivating mind-set;
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail;
  • Basic mathematical skills to include adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and calculating percentages;
  • Bilingual/bicultural preferred.

Working Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates in a store set and requires constant times of sitting, standing, walking and repetitive motion. Ability to lift 50 pounds or more. Potential exposure to hazard materials, irritants and allergens and noise. No direct patient contact under normal circumstances is required. No exposure involvement to blood, body fluids, non-intact skin or tissue specimens required and no access to patient protected health information.
