Customer Service Associate

Position Purpose

Under the direction of Store Coordinator - Operations, the Customer Service Associate provides excellent customer service and cash handling skills. This position reviews all activities associated with handling customer transactions and ensuring the positive shopping experience of every shopper in our store.

Job Type: Part Time 

FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-exempt 

Reports to:  Store Coordinator - Operations

Essential Functions

  • Maintain excellent Customer Service in all areas of the store;
  • Ensure customers are greeted and get assistance as needed. Handle customer issues as they arise. Engage a manager if the customer cannot be completely satisfied.
  • Able to handle and control: Voids, Returns, Cash and Credit card, Store Credits and special orders;
  • Maintain a neat and clean cashier centers and sales floor;
  • Ability to complete all types of sales transactions;
  • Complete and input Mark downs - percent and price overrides;
  • Place sold tickets on merchandise for pick up - same day and 48 hour holds;
  • Ensure correct pricing is input into POS system;
  • Ability to recognize counterfeit currency;
  • Maintain correct change for all registers;
  • Ensure all registers balance at the end of each shift;
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • Graduate from a high school, or possession of a certificate of proficiency issued by the California State Board of Education, or possession of a G.E.D. certificate;
  • Excellent Customer Service skills;
  • Previous Sales experience;
  • Previous POS experience;
  • Previous cash handling experience;
  • Ability to:
    • Train staff on POS procedures;
    • Maintain correct change for all registers;
    • Follow instruction and give direction;
    • Handle difficult customer situations;
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English;
  • Bilingual/bicultural.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Computer skills;
  • Inventory control knowledge;
  • Past experience working in retail;
  • Supervisory skills.

Working Environment and Physical Demands 

This job operates in a store set and requires constant times of sitting, standing, walking and repetitive motion. Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
