Job Title:  Financial Analyst

Position Purpose

Working under the direction of Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Analyst is responsible for analyzing the financial performance of the organization, its programs, its grants, its departments, and other operating segments as well as the compilation of their related budgets. In addition, the Financial Analyst will maintain all dashboard reporting and communication tools for the Agency.  All of these practices combined will assist the CFO in keeping the Agency informed with actionable insights to provide an effective foundation for further dialogue.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the financial analysis of the organization's performance (past, present and future) and developing working financial models for use by management;
  • Coordinates with all levels of management to gather, analyze, summarize and prepare recommendations regarding financial plans, new business planning, trended future requirements and operating forecasts;
  • Develops, interprets and implements complex financial and accounting concepts/techniques for financial planning and control;
  • Analyzes trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments & other obligations incurred to enhance the organization's financial modeling;
  • Prepares a standard set of financial and analytical reports at month-end and year-end;
  • Responsible for the generation of periodic financial statements, including monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, as required;
  • Development and preparation of timely and accurate account analysis in support of the financial statements, including preparation of general journal entries and reconciliation of general ledger accounts;
  • Prepares financial analysis, including ratio analysis and other key indicators, along with the financial statement preparation;
  • Maintains open lines of communication and makes recommendations for improvement as deemed beneficial;
  • Assists management in developing assumptions regarding the volumes of business which could be expected under the current business plan and under alternative strategies;
  • Assists in the evaluation of assumptions for reasonableness and consistency and communicates such evaluation;
  • Assists CFO with the preparation of the Agency's annual operating budget, grant budgets, department budgets, including all related schedules.  Coordinates forecasting, planning and budgeting efforts;
  • Works as a member of a team and develops working knowledge of other team member roles and assists in communicating his/her own responsibilities to other team members;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Must have working knowledge of general accounting principles and practices, and some knowledge of non-profit and fund accounting;
  • The ability to utilize an automated accounting system, including report generation and input of general journal entries required;
  • General knowledge of and ability to follow and enforce agency policies and procedures relative to the position;
  • Operate standard office equipment such as adding machine, computer, scanner, or duplicating machine; and;
  • Completes other accounting tasks and special duties as needed/assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting/Finance plus four equivalent years of experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Must have a minimum of four years professional level experience in finance or accounting position, or equivalent work/education experience;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Working Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates in an office setting and requires frequent times of sitting, standing, repetitive motion and talking. Ability to lift up to 24 pounds. No direct patient contact under normal circumstances is required. No exposure involvement to blood, body fluids, non-intact skin or tissue specimens required. Access to patient protected health information may be required.
