Psychiatrist

Job Title: Psychiatrist or Nurse Practitioner

Position Purpose

Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, the Psychiatrist serves as a member of our Behavioral Health Team that includes psychiatrists, psychotherapists and addiction counselors, who work as part of a larger group of medical and dental providers and case managers. The psychiatrist will provide initial psychiatric assessments and ongoing medication management for our patients. She/he will also provide consultation as needed to other medical providers, nursing staff and case managers.

Reports to:  Chief Medical Officer

Essential Functions

  • Provide initial psychiatric assessments and ongoing medication management;
  • Referral to additional services, including psychotherapy, addiction counseling, mental health treatment and support groups as indicated;
  • Referral to higher level of care if indicated;
  • Provide crisis intervention services if needed;
  • Accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic health Record (same-day documentation).

Required Education and Experience

  • Completion of a 4 year residency program in psychiatry;
  • Expertise in mental health diagnosis and prescription of psychotropic medications;
  • Work with a complex patient population, including those with comorbid medical conditions;
  • Work with patients with co-existing substance abuse disorders;
  • Work well as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Effectively and efficiently utilize an Electronic Medical Records system.

Preferred Education and Experience

License(s) and Certification(s)

  • Active California Medical license;
  • Active DEA license:
  • National Board Certification in Psychiatry preferred.

Working Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates in a clinical/office set and requires frequent times of sitting, standing, repetitive motion, and talking. Ability to lift up to 24 pounds. The job requires contact with the specialized population served. No exposure involvement to blood, body fluids, non-intact skin or tissue specimens required. Access to patient clinical protected health information.
